Scholarship Guidance for Master's Degree

Guidance shared by Sai Siddartha Maram .

Living Expenses & Tuition Fees

There are two major categories of expenses when pursuing a Master's degree abroad: living expenses and tuition fees.

Scholarship Availability

The chances of obtaining a scholarship purely on the basis of the application package for a Master's programme can be limited, particularly for CS and ECE students.

PhD students generally occupy many available Research Assistantship and Teaching Assistantship positions.

Build Research Relationships

A useful approach is to spend the first semester building a strong research relationship with a professor.

Discuss potential RA or TA opportunities for subsequent semesters. These positions may provide a stipend toward living expenses or tuition-fee waivers for selected credits, depending on the university.

Time Commitment

RA and TA positions can involve significant time commitments. At some institutions, students may be expected to work around 20 hours per week.

Students should account for this while preparing for internships, placements and academic coursework.

Planning for a PhD

If you are planning to pursue a PhD, Research Assistant experience can significantly strengthen your profile because it may produce tangible research outcomes.

University Fellowships

Explore university-specific fellowships and scholarships. Some universities provide awards targeted at students from specific regions or academic backgrounds.

Such programmes may include conditions, including requirements related to returning to the student's home country after graduation.

External Scholarships

Explore external funding opportunities such as Natoram Sekhsaria and KC Mahindra scholarships.

Some of these programmes operate as interest-free education loans rather than conventional scholarships, but they can still substantially reduce the immediate financial burden on families.
